Dr. David C. Lew has been known as an expert in his field for many years. Now he can add a national accolade to emphasize the point.
He recently was named one of the Top Doctors in cardiology by Castle Connolly, a company that guides consumers to the best health care around the nation. Doctors are nominated by their peers based on education, training, and achievements.
Dr. Lew founded FHV Health, which provides cutting-edge, advanced cardiac procedures and quality patient care. He is internationally known for his work in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. Dr. Lew has expertise in peripheral vascular interventions, cardiac catheterization, and carotid stenting, among other areas.
He graduated from medical school at the University of Florida, where he also completed his residency and fellowship, and is affiliated with Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Villages Regional Hospital.
Dr. Lew says he is most proud of his participation as one of 12 investigators in a groundbreaking national study that proved angioplasty and stenting may be performed safely and with positive results in hospitals without surgical backup for patients experiencing heart attacks.
“That’s one of my major accomplishments, making a major contribution to a national or international study by which cardiologists practice today,” he says.
As the first interventional cardiologist in Lake County, he also started the cardiac program at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, bringing invasive and interventional cardiology to the county in the 1990s. He led the program to one of the top rankings in the state for volume and quality of care.
Patients also would consider
Dr. Lew to be a “top doc.”
“When my patients visit me at my office, they should be able to tell that I’m passionate about what I do, compassionate with my patients, and very well-read on the latest literature and documents,” Dr. Lew says. “I’m a good communicator and an educator for the patients. They feel relaxed and confident when they leave my office.”
FHV Health also has vascular surgeons on staff, and operates urgent care centers in Leesburg and Lady Lake.
“Our patients are extremely happy to go to an urgent care because they feel that the physicians working there have very needed access to their records,” Dr. Lew says, “which usually translates to better patient care.”
